Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement

This statement outlines the ethical principles and expected standards of conduct for all parties involved in the publication process: Editors, Reviewers, Authors, and the Publisher. Adherence to these guidelines is crucial for maintaining the integrity of the scholarly record.

Role of Editors:

Editors bear the responsibility of ensuring the quality and suitability of submitted manuscripts for publication in the journal. Their key responsibilities include:

  • Evaluation of Manuscripts: Assessing submitted manuscripts based on:
    • Quality: Rigor, clarity, and significance of the research.
    • Scope: Alignment with the journal’s Aims and Scope.
    • Originality: Novelty and lack of plagiarism.
  • Confidentiality: Maintaining the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts. Information will only be shared with the corresponding author, reviewers or potential reviewers, and other members of the editorial board as necessary for the review process.
  • Efficient Review Process: Ensuring a timely and efficient review process.
  • Fair and Impartial Evaluation: Evaluating manuscripts based on their intellectual merit alone, without regard to race, gender, country of origin, ethnicity, religion, or sexual orientation of the authors.

Role of Reviewers:

Peer review is a fundamental aspect of the scholarly publishing process, providing essential feedback for editors to make informed decisions and for authors to improve their work. Reviewers are expected to:

  • Assist Editorial Decisions: Provide constructive and critical evaluations to aid editors in their decision-making process.
  • Guide Manuscript Improvement: Offer specific and actionable suggestions to help authors strengthen their manuscripts.
  • Identify Uncited Work: Bring to the editors’ attention relevant published research that has not been cited by the authors.
  • Detect Similarities: Identify any substantial similarities or overlap between the manuscript under review and other published works.
  • Declare Conflicts of Interest: Recuse themselves from reviewing manuscripts where they have any conflicts of interest, be they competitive, financial, collaborative, or otherwise. Potential reviewers should immediately notify the editors and decline the review if they feel unqualified.
  • Maintain Confidentiality: Treat manuscripts received for review as confidential documents, refraining from sharing or discussing them with others without explicit authorization from the editors.
  • Provide Timely Reviews: Aim to submit their reviews within the agreed-upon timeframe, typically three weeks.
  • Avoid Misconduct: Refrain from any form of reviewer misconduct, including breach of confidentiality, undue delays in the review process, plagiarism of the reviewed material, or exploiting knowledge gained through the review process for personal gain. Such actions will not be tolerated.

Role of Authors:

Authors have a responsibility to ensure the integrity and accuracy of their submitted work. Their key responsibilities include:

  • Originality and Submission: Submitting original research that has not been previously published and is not under consideration for publication elsewhere.
  • Accurate Representation: Presenting an accurate and truthful account of the research conducted.
  • Contextualization and Significance: Providing a clear discussion of the significance of the work in relation to existing literature.
  • Sufficient Detail for Replication: Including sufficient experimental detail and methodology to allow other researchers to replicate the findings.
  • Appropriate Citation: Providing complete and accurate citations for all previously published works that have influenced the research.
  • Disclosure of Conflicts of Interest: Disclosing any financial or other conflicts of interest that could be perceived as influencing the research or its interpretation.
  • Disclosure of Funding Sources: Declaring all sources of financial support for the research.
  • Authorship Contribution: Limiting authorship to individuals who have made significant contributions to the conception, design, execution, and analysis of the work. All individuals who have made substantial contributions should be included as co-authors.
  • Responsibility for Errors: Obligating themselves to promptly inform the journal editor upon discovering a significant error or inaccuracy in their published work, to facilitate appropriate corrective action, including erratum or retraction.

Role of the Publisher:

The Publisher plays a crucial role in upholding the integrity of the published research. Their responsibilities include:

  • Addressing Misconduct: In instances of proven scientific misconduct, plagiarism, or fraudulent publication, the publisher will collaborate with the editorial board to thoroughly investigate the matter and take appropriate action.
  • Ensuring Transparency: Taking measures to clarify the situation, potentially through the publication of an erratum, corrigendum, or retraction of the affected work.

By adhering to these ethical guidelines, all parties involved contribute to maintaining the trustworthiness and reliability of scholarly publications
