Scopus indexed journals list for Science updated 2026

Publishing in a Scopus-indexed journal is a major milestone for any researcher. As we move into 2025, the Scopus database continues to be the gold standard for academic validation, offering visibility to over 43,000 active titles.

However, the Scopus list is dynamic. Journals are frequently added, and unfortunately, some are “discontinued” due to quality concerns. This guide provides the latest insights into the 2025 science journal landscape and where to find the official, most up-to-date lists.

Why Scopus Indexing Matters in 2025

Scopus is Elsevier’s abstract and citation database. For scientists, publishing here ensures:

Global Visibility: Your work is discoverable by millions of researchers.
Academic Progression: Most universities and funding bodies require Scopus-indexed publications for PhD completion and grants.
Quality Assurance: Journals must pass a rigorous review by the Content Selection and Advisory Board (CSAB).

Top Scopus Indexed Science Journals (2025 Highlights)

Based on the latest SJR (SCImago Journal Rank) and CiteScore data, here are some of the most prestigious science journals currently indexed.

Journal Title	Subject Area	Publisher
Nature	Multidisciplinary Science	Nature Research
Science	Multidisciplinary Science	AAAS
Cell	Biological Sciences	Elsevier
The Lancet	Medical Sciences	Elsevier
Reviews of Modern Physics	Physical Sciences	American Physical Society
Chemical Reviews	Chemistry	American Chemical Society
Nature Energy	Energy & Engineering	Springer Nature

Finding the right journal is a balance between high impact and reasonable timelines. For 2025, many “gold” open-access and multidisciplinary journals have optimized their workflows to offer faster peer review without sacrificing Scopus integrity.

Below are the curated lists for science-focused Scopus journals in 2025, categorized by field and publication speed.

1. Fast-Track & Multidisciplinary Science Journals

These journals are ideal for researchers who need high visibility and a relatively quick turnaround (average 4–12 weeks for first decision).

Journal Title	Publisher	Focus Area	2025 Status
Scientific Reports	Nature Portfolio	All Sciences	Active (Q1)
IEEE Access	IEEE	Eng. & Comp Sci	Active (Q1)
Heliyon	Elsevier	Multidisciplinary	Active (Q2)
PLOS ONE	PLOS	Science & Med	Active (Q1)
Sustainability	MDPI	Env. & Social Sci	Active (Q2)

Each of these journals is confirmed as Scopus-indexed for the 2025 cycle and is known for either high impact or rapid peer-review cycles.

How to Verify Indexing Status Today

Scopus updates its list monthly. Before submitting your 2025 manuscript, perform this “30-second check”:

Go to the Official Scopus Sources Tool.
Select “Title” or “ISSN” from the dropdown.
Type your journal’s details.
Look for “Scopus coverage years”: It should say “to Present”. If it says “coverage discontinued,” do not submit.
